2020 Athlete Guide (will be posted on November 1, 2019)
COURSE DESCRIPTION (Times and details subject to change. Final course will depend on race-day conditions. Course will be marked with BLACK ARROWS on ORANGE BACKGROUND by Friday at 2:00 p.m.)
The race will have a mass start to begin your 6-hour adventure in the Papago. The 2020 course loop has a few new short sections, and is approximately 7 miles with spots for you to drop the hammer and speed away in the big ring as well as a few other spots that will make you clutch your brakes. There’s also a single-track portions alongside bushes that like to scratch (battle wounds are cool, right?) and a section that goes through a tunnel where we REQUIRE that you dismount and walk your bike through. Plus a new climb on your way to the Canal section.
This race will start, by category, on Lakeview Drive under the Mill Avenue bridge. You’ll take off about 100 yards on pavement up the hill to the course.
The race will be chip timed by Raceplace Events. Solo riders will have a timing chip located on the back of their race plate number that must be kept on the bike the entire day. Relay teams will each have their own timing chip on the back of their plates and need only High-5 tag a teammate in the Rider Relay Zone designated near the finish line for the lap hand-off! There will be a Rider Relay area designated for these teams to transfer. You must dismount your bike before entering the “tagging” your teammate.
Here’s the deal. All we care about is how many total laps you and/or your team do. We don’t care who rides which lap or in what order this all happens. For the co-ed teams, the female rider must complete a minimum of one (1) lap during the six hour duration of the race. You may choose to ignore this rule and ride as many laps as you like, but your team will not be eligible for awards.
*ALL TEAMS MUST EXCHANGE by DISMOUNTING IN THE TEAM AREA LOCATED NEXT TO THE FINISH LINE. THIS IS FOR YOUR SAFETY. PENALTIES WILL BE GIVEN FOR NOT FOLLOWING THE RULES.
